Turkish President: Hamas is ready for peace

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on October 4 local time said he welcomed the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas)’s positive response to the U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Gaza Plan.”“Hamas has shown its readiness to peace.”, which opens a "window of opportunity" for lasting peace in the region.

When attending the event in Istanbul, Erdogan said that Turkey is stepping up diplomatic efforts aimed at ending Israel's two-year military strike on the Gaza Strip and achieving local peace and security. He said: "Our goal is to restore peace, peace and security to our brothers and sisters in Gaza as soon as possible. We have gone all out in various fields. Last week, we have made contacts in new york and Washington, and had in-depth discussions with President Trump on this matter."

He stressed that in the telephone conversation with Trump on the 3rd, the situation in Gaza was still one of the most important issues, and Hamas's response to the peace plan was satisfactory. The key now is that "Israel must immediately stop all attacks."Erdogan called on the international community to effectively fulfill its responsibilities and not let “the hope for peace that has just begun to breathe down.”

On the evening of October 3, local time, Hamas issued a statement announcing that it would submit a response to Trump's "20-point plan" to the mediator, and expressed its willingness to negotiate through the mediator to implement the relevant plan. The statement said that the organization agreed to release all Israeli hostages and hand over the remains of the victims according to Trump's proposal, provided that the necessary conditions for the exchange are met. Against this background, Hamas is willing to negotiate immediately through mediators to discuss the specific details of this process.
