This is the second time within 24 hours that the airport has suspended flights due to the impact of drones.

Around 23: 00 local time on the 3rd, witnesses found suspicious drones over the runway. The drone then disappeared and failed to be identified. For safety reasons, the air traffic control department suspended all flights that night. The airport resumed operation at 7: 00 on the 4th, and the local police are still investigating the source of the drone and the identity of the controller.

According to the airport operators, a total of 23 entrance flights were forced to land at the airport, another 12 flights were cancelled, 46 flights scheduled to depart from Munich airport were not carried out, and about 6500 passengers were affected.

Previously, due to repeated discoveries of drones, German air traffic control authorities restricted flight operations at Munich Airport from 22:18 on the 2nd, and subsequently suspended operations completely. The airport just resumed operations on the morning of the 3rd.

According to German media reports, several German politicians have called for the acceleration of the establishment of drone defense mechanisms. The Bavarian governor of Munich, Marcus Zeder, said that the Munich airport incident is not an isolation, but a reflection of the overall security situation in Europe.

German Interior Minister Dobrindt said on the 3rd that he intends to involve the Bundeswehr in the drone defense work currently under the responsibility of the police department when necessary.
