Pakistan to send two astronauts to China for training on Chinese space station in 2026

[World Wide Web Reporter Zhang Qian] According to reports by Pakistan Geo News Network and "Pakistan Today" on October 3 local time, Pakistan will send two Pakistan citizens to China this month to receive one-year astronaut training in China. After completing systematic training, the selected candidates plan to enter the China Space Station in 2026 to perform a week-long mission.

In preparation for the mission, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission has solicited proposals for scientific experiments from all over Pakistan, Geo News said. There are currently 300 experiments shortlisted and are expected to be included in the plan.

In February this year, the China Manned Space Engineering Office signed a cooperation agreement with the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Committee. The two sides will jointly select Pakistani astronauts to enter the Chinese Space Station to carry out joint missions. At the International Lunar Scientific Research Station Developers Conference held in Shanghai on April 23rd, Amjad Ali, deputy director-general of Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Committee, revealed to the Global Times reporter that Pakistan has started the initial selection of astronauts in China, and it is planned to select more than 10 candidates first. Amjad Ali said that this will not only be the first time that the Chinese space station has accepted foreign astronauts, but also the first astronaut for Pakistan, which is an event of great significance for both sides.

"Space exploration is the common dream of all mankind. We are glad to see China and Pakistan signing a space cooperation agreement and look forward to the smooth entry of Pakistani astronauts into the Chinese space station." In March this year, regarding the signing of the space cooperation agreement between China and Pakistan and the welcoming of Pakistani astronauts on the Chinese space station, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said at a regular press conference that since the implementation of China's manned spaceflight project, it has always adhered to the principle of "peaceful use, equality, mutual benefit and common development". We are willing to make joint efforts with Pakistan to push bilateral space cooperation to a new level, so that space technology can better benefit the economic and social development of the two countries. China is also willing to work with all countries and regions committed to the peaceful use of outer space to carry out more international cooperation and exchanges.
