Breaking-News >> WorldNews Trump withdraws New York's homeland security and counter-terrorism funding cuts
Xinhua Agency, Washington, October 3 (Reporters Yang Ling and Xiong Maoling) U.S. President Trump announced on the 3rd that he had withdrawn a US$187 million plan to cut homeland security and counter-terrorism funding for New York State and New York City. Trump posted on social media on the same day: "I am pleased to inform you that I have withdrawn the cuts to homeland security and anti-terrorism funding in new york and New York. I am honored to do so." According to the New York Times, White House officials said the funding cuts were launched by the Department of Homeland Security and did not give an explanation and were not approved by Trump. The report quoted a source as saying that Trump did not receive a call from New York State Governor Hothur until September 28. A statement from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security officials on October 3 did not explain the reasons for launching or withdrawing the program, but only stated that "we are grateful to New York State for its cooperation and today we announced that we will allocate full funding for the Homeland Security Appropriation Program to Effectively respond to and combat security threats in New York State." Hozur welcomed Trump's decision. On September 29th, Hochul called Homeland Security Secretary Noam, asking for the cancellation of the plan to cut New York State's homeland security and anti-terrorism funding by 86%, or $187 million, and warned that this move "will make the whole United States more vulnerable to terrorist attacks". On the same day, New York, 10 other states and the District of Columbia filed a lawsuit against the federal government's reduction of anti-terrorism funds, and accused the reduction plan of being related to the states' failure to cooperate with the federal government's immigration action. Since the Trump administration came to power, it has been taking steps to withdraw or freeze federal funds from those states and cities it considers not to be compatible with government immigration law enforcement or other priorities. According to media reports, as of October 3, the Trump administration has frozen all sorts of funds of at least $28 billion in Democratic-hosted states and cities.
