Venezuela submits complaint to Security Council rotating chairman over U.S. plane approach provocation

On October 3, local time, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Hill informed that the Venezuelan government had filed a complaint with the rotating chairman of the UN Security Council Russia, accusing the U.S. military aircraft of “illegal intrusion” in its near-sea airspace.

Hill said the complaint was filed by Venezuela’s Deputy Representative to the United Nations, Perez, and specifically stated that the illegal invasion of Venezuela’s near-sea airspace by U.S. fighter jets on October 2, which not only threatened Venezuela’s sovereignty, but also violated international law and the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation, which has intensified the militarization trend in the Caribbean region and constituted an open provocation to Venezuela.

On October 2, the Venezuelan Defense Minister, Padrino Lopez, said that the Venezuelan air defense system had detected more than five military aircraft near the coast of Macchia on the same day, qualifying them as "provocative" acts.

Recently, the Venezuelan side has repeatedly noted an increase in external military activity in the Caribbean waters, while the US said its related operations were carried out in international airspace and sea space.
