The UN Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNFPA) issued a statement on October 3, saying that the Israeli Defense Army drone on October 2 threw hand grenades at peacekeepers carrying out missions and near Lebanese soldiers, condemning the Israeli military disregarding the security of the UNFPA and personnel of the Lebanese army.

The statement said that peacekeepers and Lebanese soldiers were at the time providing security for workers cleaning the ruins of postwar houses in the southern Mairong Corner of Lebanon. At about 11:30 a.m. on the same day, peacekeepers in two different locations heard a hand grenade exploded nearby. A few minutes later, a group of peacekeepers saw a drone flying past and witnessed a hand grenade exploding about 30 to 40 meters away. About 20 minutes later, another group that a hand grenade dropped by a drone exploded about 20 meters above its head.

The statement said that UNIFIL had informed Israel of relevant operations in advance and immediately requested that the attack be stopped after the incident. No one was injured in the incident that day, and cleanup work continued thereafter.

The statement emphasizes that Israeli attacks on peacekeepers or interfering with the execution of their tasks are a serious violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.The statement urges Israel to cease attacks on peacekeepers, civilians and Lebanese soldiers so that peacekeepers can perform their assignments without hindrance.
