On the evening of October 3 local time, the government of the French Alpes Maritimes Province announced on social media platforms that a shooting incident in the Moulain district of Nice had killed two people and injured many others, one of whom was seriously injured.
The Nice Prosecutor's Office stated that it had launched an investigation into "intentional homicide by an organized group and attempted intentional homicide by an organized group" and referred the case to the Interdepartmental Judicial Police Department of the Alpes-Maritimes Province.
Police and firefighters have rushed to the scene.Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi was also on the scene, describing the situation on social media platforms as "tense and chaotic" and describing the incident as "related to a drug gang that triggered automatic weapons shootings".
Alps coast province governor Laurent O'Leary said he "strongly condemned this shameful behavior" and announced that he would deploy additional police forces from October 4 to ensure the neighborhood is restored to safety, stressing that the stay will continue until it is necessary to end.
