Breaking-News >> WorldNews WHO reports: More than 40,000 people in Gaza have been seriously injured by conflict and health system is on the verge of collapse
According to the latest assessment report released by the World Health Organization on October 2, the ongoing armed conflict in the Gaza Strip has caused about 42,000 people to be seriously injured, of which a quarter are children. According to the report, the region has accumulated 16,7376 injuries since October 2023, with a quarter of them being seriously injured, and more than 5,000 people being forced to undergo osteoporosis. Other serious injuries include injury to the upper and lower limbs, spinal cord injury, brain injury and large area burns. These injuries continue to push local demand for professional surgical surgery and rehabilitation services. The report, which brings together data from 22 WHO-backed emergency medical teams, key health partners and the Gaza health sector, provides a more comprehensive reflection of the current needs for rehabilitation from severe trauma in the Gaza Strip. According to the report, the Gaza health system is on the brink of collapse as new injuries continue to rise and medical needs explode.Only 14 of the 36 hospitals in the region are partially operational, while rehabilitation services are undercapable for one-third of the conflict, and several of them are still facing shutdowns. The report emphasizes that to ensure the accessibility and expansion of medical services in the Gaza Strip, three measures must be implemented immediately, namely, emergency protection of the medical system, ensuring unimpeded fuel supplies, and lifting restrictions on the entry of basic medical supplies.
