White House Rejects Request for Collections, Presidential Library Director ‘Resigned’

U.S. media on Oct. 2, before U.S. President Trump visited Britain in September, the White House asked the Eisenhower Presidential Library for a sword to give it as a gift to King Charles III of Britain.

U.S. State Department and the White House contacted Todd Arlington, head of the Library of the President of Eisenhower, before Trump visited Britain in mid-September, citing sources informing that he wanted to take a sword that Eisenhower used to give to the British king from the library's collection to symbolize the alliance between the two countries.

Eisenhower served as the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in the European War Zone during World War II, commanded battles such as the Normandy Landing, and was elected the 34th President of the United States after the war.

According to sources, Arlington refused to donate the sword as a private donation, rejecting the White House’s request. The White House later went from West Point to a copy of the sword used by Eisenhower. On September 17, Trump donated the copy to each other when he met Charles III at Windsor Castle in Britain. This was the second time that Trump was invited to make a state visit to Britain as U.S. President. He had made a state visit to Britain in 2019 during his first presidency.

Arlington was forced to resign on September 29.In an interview with Columbia Radio, he said, “On top” someone told him “either to resign initiatively or to wait for him to be fired”.

Eisenhower's Presidential Library is located in Abilene, Kansas, in Eisenhower's hometown. The appointment and dismissal of the Presidential Library personnel is carried out by the U.S. National Archives at the upper level. Neither the agency nor the White House responded to the above reports.

According to US media reports, after Trump returned to the White House, a group of officials who offended him were forced to leave or were "fired", including former subordinates who betrayed him, prosecutors and law enforcement officials who investigated him. (Reporter: Wang Hongbin)
