On October 2, Canada announced the establishment of the Defense Investment Agency.To accelerate the procurement of new military equipment, boost domestic production, create high-paying jobs, foster new industrial alliances, and reduce dependence on the United States.

The Canadian Prime Minister¡¯s Office issued a statement that the agency would reform and streamline Canada¡¯s defense procurement processes, build domestic manufacturing and supply chains, and create new jobs. The agency will also be responsible for closer cooperation with partners in the UK, Australia and France that already have specialized procurement agencies to make UN defense procurement and cooperation easier and more efficient.

Currently, Canada buys most of its military equipment from the United States. Previously, Canadian Prime Minister Carney had promised to diversify the procurement channels of national defense hardware.
