South African president urges Israel to release multinational activists it detains

Xinhua News Agency, Johannesburg, October 2 (Reporter Jiang Guopeng, Bai Ge) On the 2nd, South African President Ramaphosa criticized Israel's interception of the humanitarian transport fleet as "violating international law" and urged Israel to immediately release the multinational activists detained by it.

The Israeli Navy intercepted several ships in the Mediterranean waters on the evening of October 1 attempting to break the Israeli naval blockade and transport humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip, and transferred a large number of activists on board to the Israeli southern port of Ashdod.

In a statement, Ramaphosa said the “Global Endurance Fleet” operation was aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and promoting regional peace, while Israeli authorities intercepted the fleet in international waters as “another serious violation of global solidarity and emotions.”

The "Global Resistance Fleet" consisted of more than 40 ships and more than 500 activists participated in it.Israel has indicated that the participant in the fleet is associated with the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which the fleet firmly denies.
