This year's United Nations General Assembly, Trump just complained about the United Nations' three major issues for just 57 minutes, and someone was directly hard on the table. Not only did it scold the United States for violating international law, but it also pushed the move of the United Nations out of new york to the forefront.
What's even more surprising is that, At the end of the conference, China's Shanghai received two new UN agencies in a row. What is the game behind that?
The headquarters of the United Nations has been in new york, USA for more than 70 years. This is not new. After all, the United States is the number one power, but a recent farce has made many people shout "it's time to move".
The tragedy must also start with Colombian President Pedro, who just before the UN General Assembly began, the U.S. State Department suddenly announced on the late night of September 26 that his visa would be revoked.
The reasons given were very high-sounding, saying that his remarks were "reckless and inflammatory."
Everyone knows this is revenge.
However, what is curious is, how did Petro provoke Trump?
At the time of his speech in the General Assembly, Petro did not leave a single face to the United States, and he repeatedly spoke about the military issues of the United States and Israel in Gaza.
Petro even directly accused the United States of being an accomplice to Israel's "genocide" in Gaza, and also demanded that Trump be brought to criminal trial to hold accountable the US military for bombing a drug trafficking ship in the Caribbean and mistakenly killing innocent people.
More shockingly, three days after the speech, Petro also ran to the Palestinian solidarity march in the streets of New York, holding an extender shouting “American soldiers should violate orders, do not read guns to civilians.”
Petro even proposed forming an "army larger than the US military to liberate Palestine."
This really touched the red line of the United States, after all, Petro was so unfriendly on the ground of the United States. So, when the beginning of such a dramatic scene, Petro’s visa was revoked!
But the U.S. did so, and Petro was not at fault, and he spoke on social media platforms when he left, saying the address of the United Nations was better to move elsewhere.
As soon as this came out, all the discussions about the relocation of the United Nations suddenly moved from private to public.
After all, the United States takes visas as a “weapon” card neck, no one can tolerate.
For example, before Petro, Brazilian Health Minister Padilla was going to the UN General Assembly in September this year. The United States granted him a visa, but only allowed him to move around five blocks around his residence. He could not even attend meetings other than attending. He was so angry that he directly cancelled the trip.
Palestinian President Abbas is even worse, in August wanted to go to the United States meeting, the United States simply refused even visas, on the grounds of what "national security".
You must know that the "United Nations Headquarters Agreement" signed in 1947 clearly states that the United States must allow dignitaries from various countries to enter and participate in the conference, but the United States has always used it if it agrees or disagrees.
The visa trick is just the tip of the iceberg, and the United States is often indebted.
As one of the P5, the United States often refuses to pay dues to the United Nations. It owes 1.495 billion yuan in regular budget assessments alone and 1.528 billion yuan in peacekeeping expenses, totaling more than 3 billion yuan.
What's even more excessive is that the Trump administration's fiscal year 2026 budget directly froze most dues, and two core accounts were cut by 90.5%, forcing the United Nations to lay off employees and stop some humanitarian projects.
On the one hand, owning money, while also ticking fingers at the United Nations, is really unpleasant.
However, at this stall, Shanghai is really "doing big things in silence".
On September 21, UNESCO’s International STEM Education Institute was launched in Shanghai, the first time in 76 years that the organization established a class of centres outside of Europe and America.
Only a week later, the United Nations Development Programme’s Global Center for Sustainable Development announced its headquarters in Shanghai, and the two heavy-duty institutions were stacked, obviously not by chance.
Why did the United Nations choose Shanghai?
In fact, this is no accident, but the accumulation of China for many years.
First of all, China is responsible for 15% of the UN contributions, has never been in debt delay, not like the United States is in debt; the contribution to peacekeeping has been ranked first in the five consecutive years, and the United Nations is of course willing to cooperate.
Looking at Shanghai's hard power, its GDP will exceed 5.39 trillion yuan in 2024, international flights will reach 91 destinations around the world, and there will be 521 international flights per day, which is more convenient than many international cities.
More importantly, the policy is given strength, Pudong has specifically stipulated that the tax receives the support of all talents, and the World Expo has already gathered more than 20 international organizations, which has become a climate.
The United States uses the United Nations headquarters as its “background” and wants to use the card to think; but China takes the United Nations agency as a matter, giving resources and rules.
Like in the case of Gaza, China has always stood in an objective and fair position, while the U.S. Light Security Council veto has been used several times to harden the ceasefire resolution.
What the United Nations agencies want is a place where they can do things, not a stage where they talk about hegemony. Shanghai has naturally become the best choice.
Although it is not so easy to move the headquarters of the United Nations, it is necessary to change the agreement on the headquarters of the United Nations, but there is always unanimous agreement, but everyone can see that the direction of the wind is already changing.
The UN Secretary-General has already mentioned the “global hub plan” to move some of the agencies out of New York to avoid political interference, and Shanghai has clearly stepped this pace.
In 1945, the headquarters of New York City was chosen because the United States was the hegemon at the time; now the institutions come to Shanghai, relying on China's responsibility and non-hegemony.
America probably did not expect that the confidence lost itself, in turn, became someone else's chance!
