Breaking-News >> WorldNews The EU says it will continue to advance the construction of “unmanned aircraft wall”
European Commission President von der Leyen said on October 1st that the EU will continue to promote the construction of a "drone wall" and work closely with NATO to ensure the security of EU member states. The informal meeting of EU leaders was held on the same day in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Von der Leyen said at a press conference after the meeting that the "drone wall" is an anti-drone system designed to quickly detect, intercept and shoot down suspicious drones if necessary. The EU will fully learn from Ukraine's experience and work closely with NATO. European Council President Costa said the recent drone interference in Europe highlighted the need for the EU to remain united in tackling the hybrid threat, saying EU leaders also discussed “how to maintain continued support for Ukraine” and “the possibility of better utilizing frozen Russian assets.” In accordance with established practice, this informal meeting of EU leaders will not make binding decisions. Since late September, drone activity has been detected over several airports and military facilities in Denmark. EU defence officials held a video conference on September 26 with representatives of some EU defence ministers, Ukraine and NATO, and agreed to build a “drone wall” on the EU’s borders with Ukraine and Russia. Russia has repeatedly denied allegations from the EU and NATO about the drone incidents, while warning that the "drone wall" program will exacerbate regional tensions, and Russia will "resolutely respond" to any aggression against Russia.
