UN spokesman: UN will not withdraw from Gaza City

On October 1, local time, a spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, in response to questions from CBS reporters, confirmed that the UN agencies and staff in the Gaza Strip would not evacuate in a new round of conflict against Israel in Gaza City.

Press Release:Israeli Defence Minister Katz said anyone staying in Gaza City would be “treated as a terrorist and a supporter of terrorism.”

UN Secretary-General Spokesperson Diyarik:The Israeli authorities are very aware of their responsibility to protect United Nations premises and staff, and they know exactly where we work. We also coordinate our actions with them, and I think we discuss almost every day which coordination is working well and which is lacking. Our security colleagues work hard in Gaza and try to reduce risks in an extremely dangerous environment, but we continue to hold on to Gaza City.

Press Release:So can it be clear that the United Nations has no evacuation plan yet?

UN Secretary-General Spokesperson Diyarik:Yes, we remain firm in Gaza City.
