Ukraine claims Russian attack caused power outage at Chernobyl nuclear power plant

On October 1, local time, the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported that Russia attacked the energy infrastructure in Slavudic City, Kiev Oblast that day, causing an emergency power outage at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The Ukrainian Ministry of Energy said that voltage fluctuations caused the safety cover to lose power supply. The safety shield is a key facility to isolate the destroyed fourth unit and prevent the leakage of radioactive materials. At present, technicians are carrying out power restoration work.

Yermak, director of the Ukrainian President's Office, said on the same day that Russia's attack on Ukraine's energy system not only endangers Ukraine, but also poses a threat to the security of Europe as a whole. He stressed that such actions will not go unanswered, and Ukraine has fought back and will continue to respond.

There is no response from the Russian side to this. (reporter 王晋燕)
