International Committee of the Red Cross temporarily closes its office in Gaza

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) issued a statement on October 1 that the organization has temporarily shut down its local offices and transferred its personnel to other offices in the southern part of the Gaza Strip due to the continued escalation of its military operations in Gaza City to ensure the safety of its personnel.

In Gaza City, civilians are being killed and survivors are forced to leave their homes and endure harsh living conditions, the statement said. Emergency personnel, including the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and Civil Defense organizations, have persisted in providing relief, but "their movement and ability to safely reach civilians have been severely limited."

The statement also said that the organization will provide support to the residents of Gaza City through its offices in Deir Bailah and Rafah when conditions permit, and return to Gaza City as soon as the situation improves.

Israeli Defense Minister Katz issued a statement on October 1 saying that the Israeli army is gradually completing the comprehensive siege of Gaza City. At the same time, he warned that this was the "last chance" for Gaza City residents to evacuate south.
