US government investigates University of Nevada

On September 30, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that it would open an investigation into the University of Nevada in Las Vegas.Focus on how the school deals with complaints of alleged “anti-Semitism” at school。 This is another university that has been "targeted" by the federal government after famous American universities such as Harvard University and Columbia University.

According to Reuters, the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice has sent a letter to the management of the University of Nevada Las Vegas, asking the school toBefore 1 NovemberSubmit relevant documents explaining how the school has handled complaints of alleged “discrimination” within the school since a new round of Pakistan-Israel conflict broke out in October 2023.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the investigation will focus on whether the school has "discriminatory" behavior.

The Justice Department's letter acknowledges that some of the materials required from schools may contain student information protected under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act, but claims that the Justice Department has the right to obtain such information without prior consent for use in enforcing "federal legal requirements" including anti-discrimination policies.

The University of Nevada at Las Vegas said it would cooperate with the investigation, and believes that the results of the review will show that its operations comply with applicable laws.

Since Trump returned to the White House in January this year, the U.S. government has conducted a comprehensive review of the so-called "anti-Semitism" situation in universities such as Harvard University and Columbia University, requiring universities to eradicate "anti-Semitism" and abolish the enrollment policy that favors ethnic minorities, otherwise federal funding will be cut or frozen.

In July, a number of Ivy League schools, including the University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University and Brown University, reached an agreement with the federal government in exchange for the latter ending a number of federal investigations or unfreezing scientific research funds. Stanford University confirmed in early August that it had laid off more than 360 jobs due to the government's cuts to federal funding.
