Dissatisfied with the non-agricultural sector employment data released by the Department of Labor on August 1, Trump ordered the dismissal of Erica Macktaver, then director of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, just hours after the data was released, accusing her of "manipulating employment data for political purposes" but did not provide any evidence.

Anthony is the chief economist at the Center for the Federal Budget, an internal agency of the Heritage Foundation.
