Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said on September 30 that Russia supports the reform of the global governance system.The Russian side will actively assist China and other countries in refining and implementing global governance initiatives.

The 22nd annual meeting of Valdai International Debate Club, a Russian think tank, is being held in Sochi, a city in southwestern Russia. In response to a question from Xinhua News Agency on the global governance initiative at the annual meeting venue, Lavrov said that China's global governance initiative during the SCO Tianjin Summit will help change the situation that some mechanisms of global governance are subject to the West.

He said, for example, that the United States is preventing the International Monetary Fund from increasing its share of the world¡¯s Southern countries, and that the West is abusing its own position in the World Bank, ¡°this abuse of multilateral mechanisms and its selfish unilateral geopolitical purposes is a disaster.¡±

Lavrov pointed out that the World Trade Organization also needs reform because the United States has blocked the organization from resolving trade disputes for decades, including preventing the organization from considering China's complaints of discrimination and violations of WTO rules by Western countries in trade with China.
