Breaking-News >> WorldNews UN agency reiterates call for urgent ceasefire in Gaza
On September 30 local time, UN agencies again called for an emergency ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people. UNICEF spokesman Ricardo Pires said at his weekly briefing that a ceasefire must be achieved before aid can be allowed, not only to prevent the famine from continuing to spread southward, but also to ensure that children and families are sheltered. Pires said that about 400,000 people are currently displaced on a large scale in Gaza, and Israel's continuous military operations in Gaza City have forced people to flee from the north to the south.
