Breaking-News >> WorldNews Spain bans U.S. use of two military bases to ship weapons to Israel
The Spanish government has banned U.S. forces from using the two military bases in Rota and Moron in Spain to ship weapons to Israel. The Spanish-U.S. Joint Committee said that whether weapons were shipped directly to Israel from the Rota and Moron military bases, or aircraft carrying weapons had stopped in the two bases, were within the limits of the Spanish government’s ban. According to information, the Rota and Moron military bases were built by the U.S. military and managed by the Spanish-U.S. Joint Commission. Under the U.S. and Spanish military cooperation agreement signed in 1988, when the U.S. transfers arms ammunition or disputed passengers or goods from bases to third countries, the Spanish government must obtain permission to use the two military bases. With regard to the decision, an insider who told the National newspaper said: “Rota and Moron are not screens,” meaning that Spain will not allow other countries to unrestricted use of military bases within the country. A State Department spokesman said the United States was “deeply concerned” about the Spanish initiative and accused Spain as a NATO member but restricted U.S. military actions, “encouraging the terrorist flame.” Since the outbreak of the conflict, the Spanish government has repeatedly opposed Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip and approved a "comprehensive arms embargo" on Israel in September this year, according to the Jerusalem Post, given the Spanish attitude toward Israel, the U.S. military did not stop at two Spanish military bases when it delivered six F-35 fighter jets to Israel in March.
