Near East Relief Project: Approximately 500,000 people trapped in Gaza in less than 8 square kilometers

Adnan Abu Hasna, spokesman for the United Nations Office for Relief and Engineering for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East, said on Monday that about half a million people in Gaza City are trapped in an area of less than eight square kilometers, while Israel has threatened Palestinians to flee to the southern part of the Gaza Strip, where about 70,000 people will be crowded per square kilometer, “no room for even a tent to build, tens of thousands of families will be displaced on the streets, homeless.”

The spokesman stressed that hunger has spread and displaced persons spread from Gaza City to the central and southern parts of the Gaza Strip, with an urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and allowing humanitarian aid to enter.

On August 22, the Integrated Classification of the Stage of Food Security (IPC) announced in a report that “the famine in Gaza City has already occurred” and predicted that the famine “will spread to areas such as Delhi and Khan Younis by the end of September.”
