EU restarts sanctions on Iran

The European Council issued a press release on September 29th, local time, saying that it would re-impose a series of sanctions on Iran that day. These measures were previously suspended due to the entry into force of the Iranian nuclear deal reached in 2015.

The EU re-imposed sanctions include travel bans, asset freezes, economic and financial sanctions, and trade, finance and transportation, including a ban on arms and equipment related to nuclear activities to Iran, restrictions on imports and transportation of oil, natural gas and petrochemicals, the freezing of Iranian central bank and major commercial bank assets, and a ban on Iranian freight flights to EU airports.
