[Global Times reporter Li Xundian] Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair was revealed to be interested in leading a post-war transitional agency in Gaza supported by the United Nations and Gulf countries. This news aroused widespread concern and discussion, and some media commented that Blair wanted to be the "Governor of Gaza".

According to media reports such as the Financial Times, the core of the plan is the creation of an interim government called the ¡°International Transitional Power Agency for Gaza¡± that will follow the international custody model of the past in East Timor and Kosovo, which will be conferred on ¡°the highest political and legal power in Gaza¡±, led by Blair and operated for three to five years. The agency will set up a secretariat of no more than 25 people and a committee of seven people.

In August, Blair met with Trump at the White House to discuss the Gaza issue. Trump¡¯s son-in-law Jared Kushner and U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkov both outlined the idea at the meeting. The report said that on September 23, Trump also expressed similar ideas to leaders of Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia and five Arab countries, saying ¡°we¡¯re close to a deal.¡±

According to reports, Blair¡¯s personal experience has become the biggest controversial point of the ¡°International Transitional Power Agency for Gaza¡± program. When Blair was in office, Britain was directly involved in the 2003 U.S.-led Iraq War, leading to turmoil in the Middle East. In addition, during his eight years as the Middle East Quartet Special Envoy, Israel attacked Gaza four times and continued to strengthen control over Palestinian territories. Some media stressed that Blair failed to effectively promote Palestinian independence process.

Palestinian President Abbas said the Palestinian side was "ready" to take over Gaza's governance, while the Arab countries showed conditional openness, stressing that any deployment of peacekeeping armed forces must be linked to a clear path to the establishment of a Palestinian state.
