Canadian airport self-customs system fails, passengers face long waiting

On September 28, local time, the Canadian Border Service said that due to unexpected technical problems during the maintenance of the routine system, several customs self-checkers of the Canadian Border Service failed, and multiple airport passengers across Canada or faced long waiting.

Self-check bars, also known as “e-passport doors”, are used to verify the identity of passengers and submit customs declarations. Major Canadian airports such as Montreal Trudeau International Airport, Toronto Pearson International Airport and Calgary International Airport have warned passengers on social media that they may wait longer than usual at customs.

The Canadian Border Service said it was working to restore the system as soon as possible and apologized for the inconvenience caused by the failure.
