On April 6, 1993, a China Eastern Airlines passenger plane was hit by strong turbulence while flying to the United States
Thirty-two years ago today, on April 6, 1993 (March 15, 1993 in the lunar calendar), a China Eastern Airlines passenger plane was forced to land by strong airflow on its way to the United States. In 1993, our country Eastern Airlines Flight 583 encountered strong airflow on its way to Los Angeles on April 6, the United States. It rose and fell sharply in the air many times, and the fuselage shook. The plane immediately changed to the Simia Air Force Base in the Aleutian Islands and made an emergency landing. The injured passengers were sent to the hospital in Anchorage, the capital of Alaska, more than 2,400 kilometers east by base military helicopters and transport planes for examination and treatment. In an interview with reporters at the Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage, Shi Tao, the injured passenger, said that during the flight, the airliner, which was flying smoothly, suddenly fell sharply for some reason, and the passengers flew out of their seats, and some headbutted into the roof of the cabin. Then the plane suddenly rose again, and the passengers were thrown to the ground again. Such ups and downs at least twice, many passengers in the rear cabin were injured. Jiao Xueyou, a doctor at the Hunan Provincial People's Hospital who participated in the rescue of the injured passengers on the plane, said that one passenger, about 50 to 60 years old, died on the spot, and it is estimated that 30 to 40 passengers suffered serious injuries such as broken bones and scalp ruptures, and about 100 passengers suffered various degrees of contusions and abrasions. Yoni Cairns, the director of Thrift Hospital in Anchorage, said the hospital had received 46 injured Chinese passengers, 21 of whom had been hospitalized for serious injuries but were in stable condition. Another 25 passengers were examined and treated and went to hotels to rest. Eastern Airlines has sent a passenger plane to Simia Air Force Base to transport uninjured passengers still stranded there to Los Angeles.
