6 April 1965 International Communications Satellite-I
Today, 60 years ago, on April 6, 1965 (March 5, 1965), the International Communications Satellite-I was launched successfully. On April 6, 1965, the world’s first commercial communications satellite – International Communications Satellite-I (also known as the “morning bird”) was launched. Morningbird officially provided communications services between North America and Europe, opening a new era of satellite commercial communications. The International Communications Satellite System is using sixteen satellites such as international communications satellites – IV, IVA and V – deployed over three oceans to provide a variety of communications operations across 310 ground stations in 135 countries or regions around the world, and since 1986 Hughes has developed a more advanced international communications satellite-V1, bringing its service level to a new standard.
