66 years ago today, April 6, 1959 (February 29, 1959 in the lunar calendar), the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania was established. On April 6, 1959, the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania was formed by a split faction of the African National Congress of South Africa. The organization advocates the establishment of an African-ruled Republic of South Africa through violent struggle and provides "pan-Africanism, African solidarity and proletarian internationalism." In 1960, a national anti-passport law movement was organized. In March, it was declared "illegal" by the South African authorities and went underground. Since 1961, they evacuated South Africa and established armed forces in the mountains of Lesotho to prepare for armed struggle. In April 1963, the policy was adjusted to cooperate with the Black Awakening Movement and adhere to mass movements and armed struggle. After 1983, its strength grew and was recognized by the Organization of African Unity.
