Two and a half years later, Iraq resumed oil exports from the Kurdish Autonomous Region to Turkey.

On September 27, the Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced that after a two-and-a-half-year interruption, oil exports to Turkey from the Kurdish Autonomous Region (Kurdish Autonomous Region) in northern Iraq were resumed on the same day.

According to a statement from the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, Iran resumed oil supplies to Turkey from 6 a.m. on 27 a.m. local time. Turkish Energy Minister Alpaslan Bayrakhtar confirmed this on social media.

Earlier, the Iraqi central government accused the Libya region of exporting oil to Turkey without the central government’s consent and filed a complaint with the International Chamber of Commerce, an international trade arbitration agency based in Paris, France. In March 2023, the International Chamber of Commerce ruled to support the Iranian claim, demanding that Turkey pay Iran $1.5 billion in compensation.

In mid-July this year, the Iraqi central government and the Kurdish autonomous government agreed that the Kurdish autonomous region would resume the export of crude oil through the National Petroleum Sales Agency. Later in July, the Iranian side submitted a draft energy agreement hoping to resume and expand energy cooperation between the two sides.

On September 25, the Iraqi central government, the autonomous government of the reservoir area and a number of international oil companies operating in the reservoir area reached an agreement that Iraq will resume oil transportation to Turkey, which will be controlled at 180,000 to 190,000 barrels per day.

Ali Nizar, director of the Iraqi National Oil Sales Office, told AFP that the agency would receive 190,000 barrels of crude oil per day for export and 50,000 barrels per day from the Iraqi National Oil Sales Office to meet domestic demand.
