He traveled across the ocean at the age of 17, went out to do business, worked hard, and worked hard, and later became a rich man in Nanyang. He returned to China in the autumn of 1919 and devoted himself to running schools in his hometown. He successively opened primary schools, middle schools, and normal schools... collectively referred to as Jimei School. He said angrily: "Enterprises can close down, but schools must not stop!" He sold his assets and insisted on running the school. He actively supported Dr. Sun Yat-sen's revolution and raised more than 200,000 yuan to recover Fujian. During the Anti-Japanese War, he supported the Anti-Japanese War in all aspects of people, property and property. From 1937 to 1940, he raised a total of 3 billion yuan (old coins). He lives a simple life, lives in an old room, and sets a food standard of no more than 5 cents. His motto is: Don't spare a penny of the money you should use, and don't spend a penny of the money you shouldn't use. On his deathbed, he dedicated all of his inheritance of more than 3 million yuan to the country. In 1962, Xiamen University was listed as a national key university. Over the past 77 years (as of 1998), Xiamen University has achieved brilliant achievements in realizing Mr. Chen Jiageng's ambition to "cultivate talents, transform society, and revitalize the motherland". Xiamen University has become a university including 12 colleges, 27 departments, 62 undergraduate majors, 63 master's subjects, 21 doctoral programs, 4 postdoctoral research mobile stations, and 3 national basic disciplines talent training base; it has 6 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 11000 students. In recent years, Xiamen University has made great efforts to improve the level of teaching and scientific research.
