90 years ago today, on April 6, 1935 (March 4, 1935 lunar calendar), the Qiantang River Bridge started construction. On April 6, 1935, the Qiantang River Bridge started construction. In the summer of 1933, Zeng Yangfu, director of the Zhejiang Provincial Government Construction Department, initiated the construction. Mao Yi, a famous bridge construction expert, was promoted to the director of the Qiantang River Bridge Engineering Department and was solely responsible for the design and construction. The bridge is the first double-layer joint bridge type in China. The lower layer is a single-track railway, and the upper layer is a double-track highway and sidewalk. The total length is 1453 meters, with 16 holes and steel beams made of alloy steel. The funds are borne by the Ministry of Railways of the National Government and Zhejiang Province, totaling more than 5 million fiat currency. The project is contracted by Chinese and foreign construction companies. On November 11, 1934, the groundbreaking ceremony was held. Construction officially started on the 6th of this month.
