On this day 36 years ago, on April 7, 1989 (March 2, 1989 in the lunar calendar), the Soviet nuclear submarine sank in the high seas. On April 7, 1989, the Soviet "Mike" class nuclear-powered submarine sank in the high seas in northern Norway. 42 people on board died and 27 survived. According to the Soviet newspaper Izvestia, the accident was caused by a fire and explosion caused by a short circuit in the line.
