On this day, 142 years ago, April 6, 1883 (February 29, 1883 in the lunar calendar), the Langqiong religious case occurred. In the ninth year of Guangxu (1883), French priest Zhang Ruowang seduced traitors into the cult in Langqiong (now Eryuan), Yunnan, killing lives, raping women, and torturing farmers, arousing public anger. On February 19, Wu Dafa and others went to Langqiong County Camp Church to recover the abducted woman. Zhang Ruowang actually opened fire and killed her. The crowd angrily besieged the church and burned and killed Zhang Ruowang and ten others. People bullied by French priests in nearby areas also destroyed churches. The Qing government closed the case by banishing Wu Dafa and others and paying 50,000 taels of compensation.
