President of Colombia: UN headquarters should not stay in new york

On September 27, Colombian President Petro responded to the U.S. withdrawal of his visa to the United States, criticizing the decision in violation of international law and the principle of diplomatic immunity, and directly said that "the United Nations headquarters should not remain in New York."

On the 26th, petro participated in a pro-Palestinian demonstration * outside the UN headquarters in new york. On the same day, the U.S. State Department revoked Petro's visa to the United States on the grounds that he "urged American soldiers to disobey orders and incite violence".

Petro confirmed on social media on Thursday that his U.S. visa had been revoked, but "it doesn't matter." he said that Palestinian President Abbas failed to enter to attend the 80th session of the UN General Assembly due to U.S. obstructions, and that he himself had been revoked to the U.S. visa for calling on U.S. and Israeli troops to give up support for genocide, all indicating that "the U.S. government no longer complies with international law."

Petro pointed out that the decision of the U.S. government undermined the principle of immunity on which the United Nations and its General Assembly operate. He suggested that the UN headquarters be moved out of new york and built in "a more * place". In addition, he once again called on the international community to stop the humanitarian disaster in the Gaza Strip and said that the United States should re-examine its support for Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip.

In recent years, Colombia has had tensions with the United States and Israel. In May 2024, Petro announced the “genocide” of Israel in the Gaza Strip, and Colombia broke diplomatic ties with Israel. In August of the same year, as Israel’s largest coal supplier, Colombia suspended coal exports to Israel, “until Israel stopped the genocide.”In July, Petro accused U.S. officials of plotting a coup in Colombia, and the two countries recalled each other’s embassy heads for emergency consultations.
