On February 26, 1994, China established an Economic Development Zone in direct cooperation with foreign governments.
Thirty-one years ago today, on February 26th, 1994 (January 17th, 1994 in the lunar calendar), the Chinese government directly cooperated with foreign governments to establish an economic development zone for the first time. On February 26, 1994, after the State Council officially approved the cooperation between China and New Zealand in developing Suzhou Industrial Park, the Chinese and New Zealand governments formally signed the Agreement on Cooperative Development and Construction of Suzhou Industrial Park, and the two sides established development consortia respectively. Singapore's consortium to develop Suzhou Industrial Park is composed of 19 group companies with tens of billions of dollars in funds. This is the first time that the Chinese government has set up an economic development zone in direct cooperation with a foreign government.
