On March 15, 1951, the Iranian National Assembly passed the Oil Nationalization Act. On May 2, the Mosaddegh government implemented a bill to nationalize the Iranian Oil Company. On May 26, Britain requested the International Court of Justice to arbitrate its oil nationalization dispute with Iran. On the 28th of the same month, the Iranian government notified Britain and the International Court of Justice that it did not recognize the International Court of Justice's authority to rule on the oil dispute between Britain and Iran. On July 5, the International Court of Justice in The Hague still ruled against Iran.
