118 years ago today, March 8, 1907 (January 24, 1907 in the lunar calendar), former Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Greece Konstantin Karamanlis was born. Konstantinos Karamanlis (1907 - 1998), the founder of the New Democratic Party of Greece and the architect of Greece's accession to the European Union. He served as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Greece three times from 1955-1958, 1958-1961, and 1961-1963. In the 1970s, he successfully freed Greece from the rule of a military dictatorship and became Prime Minister from 1974-1980. He served as President of Greece twice, from 1980 to 1985 and from 1990 to 1995.
