On September 26, Pakistani Prime Minister Shabaz, speaking at the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly, detailed the passage of the conflict between the two countries in India and Pakistan in May this year.
In his speech, Shabaz mentioned that when the Pakistani Air Force fighter jets took off against the enemy, “the answer was written in the sky that belonged to us. In the end, seven Indian fighter jets were shot down and turned into scrap and dust.”
Shabaz recalled that last year, also at this stage, “I warned that if any external aggression arises, Pakistan will take the most decisive action to counter it.”
"My words have been confirmed," Shahbaz said. "In May this year, our country encountered an unprovoked'aggression 'from the eastern border. The enemy came with arrogance, but retreated in embarrassment."
Shabaz pointed out that Pakistan’s foreign policy has always been based on peace, mutual respect and cooperation.
Shabaz said: “We firmly believe that disputes should be settled peacefully through dialogue and diplomatic means.”
Four days after the escalation of the conflict in India and Pakistan in May, the two sides agreed to a ceasefire, thanking U.S. President Trump for his “positive role” in facilitating the ceasefire.
He also mentioned China, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Azerbaijan, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and thanked them for providing diplomatic support to Pakistan during the escalation of the conflict.
"We have won this war, and now we want to win peace for our region," he went on. "Pakistan is ready to have a comprehensive, comprehensive and pragmatic dialogue with India on all outstanding issues."
At the same time, he stressed that South Asia needs “proactive” leadership, not “provocative” leadership.
The world today is more complex than ever, she said, conflicts are escalating, international law is openly violated, humanitarian crises are on the rise, terrorism remains a major threat, false information and rumors undermine mutual trust, and climate change is threatening human survival.
Today, multilateralism is no longer an option, but an inevitable requirement of the times.
According to the Indian Express, the first secretary of India's permanent delegation to the United Nations, Petar Garrot, responded "aggressively" to Shabaz's remarks when exercising India's responsibility, saying it was a "absurd drama show".
The conflict between India and Pakistan was caused by the attack on tourists in Indian-controlled Kashmir on April 22nd. India accused Pakistan of being responsible for the incident. In the name of combating terrorism, India launched the "Operation Sindour" against Pakistan on May 7th, and Pakistan responded with the "Iron Wall" operation. On May 10, India and Pakistan agreed to an immediate ceasefire.
As for the allegations of the shooting down of several Indian warplanes, on May 31, Indian Defense Chief Anil Joehan, in an interview at the Shangri-La dialogue venue, “for the first time confirmed” that India has indeed lost fighters in the recent conflict with Pakistan, but denied Pakistan’s previous claims about the shooting down of six warplanes.
On August 9, three months after the conflict, Indian Air Force Chief of Staff Amal Prit Singh claimed at an event in Bangalore that the Indian Air Force had shot down at least five Pakistani fighters.
