102 years ago today, April 14, 1923 (February 29, 1923, the national education statistics census ended. In April 1923, the China Education Improvement Society completed the survey and statistics of various types of education across the country. This work took 1 year. The survey results: (1) The total number of students nationwide is 6819486, including 34880 students from universities and specialized schools, 182804 students from secondary schools, 615378 students from primary and secondary schools, and 5965957 students from national schools. The percentage of girls is 2.42% in junior college, 3.14% in secondary school, and 6.33% in national school. Among the 1811 counties across the country, 423 counties have no female primary school students, and 1161 counties have no female tertiary school students. (2) The total number of schools of various types is 178972, including 125 colleges, 275 normal schools, 110 normal schools, 547 middle schools, 164 A industrial schools, 439 B industrial schools, 10236 senior primary schools, and 167076 national schools. (3) The percentage of primary school students to the total population is 7.2%, ranking first, far exceeding other provinces and regions. Shanxi also ranks first in the number of girls receiving national education. (4) The total annual income (silver dollars) of various schools is 59.424567 million yuan. (5) There are 136960 Catholic school students and 20292 YMCA school students. (6) No investigation was conducted in private schools. There are more than 500 schools in Nanjing with 12000 students, and more than 1000 schools in Guangzhou with more than 20,000 students. It is estimated that the number of students in private schools nationwide is at least equal to the number of students in schools.
