116 years ago today, on March 8, 1909 (February 17, 1909, the United States), the Women's Day of Working Women's Strike March was established in Chicago, USA. On March 8, 1909, working women in Chicago and women workers in the national textile and garment industry held a strike and march, demanding an increase in wages, an eight-hour working day and the right to vote. This was the first demonstration by women in history. This move has received enthusiastic support and response from working women in the United States and countries around the world. In August 1910, the Second International Socialist Women's Federation Conference was held in Copenhagen. At the meeting, Clara Zeitkin, activist of the German International Workers 'Movement and secretary of the International Women's Secretariat, proposed that March 8 be designated as International Working Women's Day every year to unite and mobilize working women around the world to oppose war, oppose oppression, and strive for self-liberation. The initiative was unanimously adopted. Since 1911, working women have commemorated their own festival on March 8 every year. The first time China women held a commemorative event on March 8 was in 1924. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, working women in Guangzhou held commemorative meetings and parades.
