On November 10 of the same year, Chiang returned to Shanghai from Japan. In order to oppose the Kuomintang Central Committee's real power, it was decided to unite Wang to control Gui. Chiang and Wang reached an agreement: Chiang resumed his post as commander-in-chief and Wang resumed his post as chairperson of the National Government. On November 17, the Guangdong-Gui War broke out. On December 11, the Chinese Communist Party launched the Guangzhou Uprising. Both incidents were used by anti-Wang factions as an excuse to attack Wang Jingwei. Wang was accused by all parties of secretly leaving Shanghai and going abroad.
