On May 12th, 2005 (April 5th, 2005 in the lunar calendar), Hu Jintao and James Soong held formal talks in Beijing. Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, met with a delegation from the mainland of the People First Party in Beijing this afternoon and held formal talks with James Soong, chairman of the People First Party. According to the results of the talks, the Communique of the Talks between Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and James Soong, Chairman of the People First Party, was released. After the talks, Hu Jintao and James Soong exchanged gifts on behalf of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the People First Party respectively. In the evening, Hu Jintao hosted a banquet for James Soong and his wife and the main members of the delegation in Yingtai, Zhongnanhai. Wu Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Wang Gang, alternate member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, secretary of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, Chen Yunlin, director of the Taiwan Province Affairs Office of the CPC Central Committee, and Zhang Zhaoxiong, vice chairman of the People First Party, attended the talks and banquet.
