On May 1, 1917, "New Youth" magazine published Liu Bannong's article "My Literary Reform" in Volume 3, No. 3, participating in the advocacy of the New Literature Movement and further proposing a series of specific literary reform measures.

He believes that to launch new literature, we must start with the reform of prose. The first is to eliminate superstitions. If you ignore yourself and just learn from the ancients, you will be descendants of the ancients. Second, classical Chinese and vernacular Chinese can temporarily be in an opposing position. The two have their own strengths and differences, and cannot be neglected. The third is not to use incomprehensible words. The first thing in the creation of new poetry is to destroy the old rhyme and recreate the new rhyme. The second is to increase the number of poems. The third is to improve the position of opera in literature.

Vernacular text should be divided into sections and punctuation should be used correctly.
