Thirty-six years ago today, on May 12th, 1989 (April 8th, 1989 in the lunar calendar), the President of Egypt ordered all officials to pay for their own car phones. On May 12th, 1989, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak ordered the removal of telephones in the buses of all senior government officials, and the corrupt style of ostentation and extravagance was eliminated. This decree of the President applies to all officials. From the Prime Minister, cabinet members to the general managers of state-owned enterprises, they are not allowed to use public funds to install telephones in cars, so as to save a sum of government expenses.
