On January 14, 1961, the Ninth Plenary Session of the Eighth CPC Central Committee was held in Beijing
Today, 64 years ago, on January 14, 1961 (November 28, 1960), the Ninth Plenary Session of the Eighth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held in Beijing. The plenary session approved the decision of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee to establish the Central Bureau of the Northeast, North China, East China, Central South, South West and North West, and to strengthen the leadership of the Party committees of the provinces, cities and autonomous regions on behalf of the Central Committee. The plenary session officially approved the eight-word principle of adjusting the national economy, namely "adjustment, consolidation, refinement and improvement". This was an important shift in economic guidance since the "great leap forward" in 1958.
