Breaking-News >> TodayHistory April 17, 1988 U.S. Navy attacks Iran
Today, 37 years ago, on April 17, 1988 (March 2, 1988), the U.S. Navy attacked Iran. On April 17, 1988, just as the two Iranians fought in the Fao Peninsula, the U.S. Navy first attacked Iran’s two oil platforms in the Gulf, and then launched seven ships including the “Enterprise” aircraft carrier to conduct the largest naval war between the U.S. Navy and Iran. The war between Iran and Iraq since the outbreak of September 1980 has passed through Iraq’s two major phases of entry into the Iranian border to Iran’s crossing to Iraq, essentially in a rigid and reckless situation. Iran is therefore in a passive state of battle with Iraq and the United States, which became the main reason for the two Iraqi ceasefire in July 1988.
