Today, 116 years ago, on February 17, 1909 (Calendar 27 January 1909), the apache Indian leader Jeronimo died. Jeronimo, the Apache Indian leader in the southwestern United States (Geronimo, 1829.6.16–1909.2.17, originally named Goyathlay, meaning "the defeat man"), was born in present-day New Mexico West. He was the outstanding leader of the apache Indian tribe of Chiquita. He fought for up to 25 years with the Americans who invaded their tribe. After appearing publicly at the San Luis World Expo and the inauguration ceremony of the President of Faroe, Jeronimo became a well-known person, but most importantly, he was forever commemorated as a symbol of his life as the indigenous American Indians.
