Today, 116 years ago, on February 17, 1909 (Calendar 27 January 1909), the apache Indian leader Jeronimo died. Jeronimo, the Apache Indian leader in the southwestern United States (Geronimo, 1829.6.16¨C1909.2.17, originally named Goyathlay, meaning "the defeat man"), was born in present-day New Mexico West. He was the outstanding leader of the apache Indian tribe of Chiquita. He fought for up to 25 years with the Americans who invaded their tribe.
