On February 9, 1903, the Swedish physician Theorel was born in Linkeepin. Theorel studied bacteriology at the Pasteur Institute in France in 1924 and taught at the University of Uppsala in 1932. His main contribution was to the study of oxidase, which explained the basic structure and function of enzymes, and thus won the 1955 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine.
