Severe explosions before South African elections on April 24, 1994
Today, 31 years ago, on April 24, 1994 (Calendar 14 March 1994) a severe explosion occurred before the South African election. At 9:45 a.m. on April 24, 1994, a bomb weighing about 80 kilograms exploded in a car on the corner of Bly Street in the city center, 200 meters from the headquarters of the Republic of South Africa. This was the largest car bombing in history in the city center of Johannesburg, killing eight people and wounding more than 70 people. The explosion shook South Africa and 5,000 international observers and 3,000 journalists in South Africa.
