Today, 28 years ago, on March 3, 1997 (Calendar January 25, 1997), the highest building in the Southern Hemisphere was officially opened. SkyTower is located between Victoria St. and Hobson St. in the centre of New Zealand’s largest city of Auckland. The SkyTower was built in 1996 for two years and nine months, and officially opened on March 3, 1997, half a year before its completion. The SkyTower is up to 328 meters high, is New Zealand’s iconic building and the world’s tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere, 12th tallest building. It is the world’s thirteenth independent tourist tower and is one of the members of the World High Tower Alliance. About 1 million visitors visit this place every year.
